Coach’s Game Analysis:

Hitting:
- Opposing team had some flat pitches. Ump was not calling these pitches illegal. (Same ump from Game 6 and 7.) However I personally think these pitches were easier to hit.

Fielding:
- Solid fielding by both teams. Our opponents only had one bad inning, which was the difference maker.

Base running:
- With one exception, neither team was particularly aggressive on base running. But then again, it didn’t seem necessary for this game.

Game Highlights:

Big Bats:
Marcus: 5 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI.
Mike: 4 for 4 (BB) with 2 runs and an RBI.
A-WOL: 4 for 5 with 1 run and an RBI.
Indies #1: Batted around once. Each player had at least one hit in game.

Web Gems:
Marcus:catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (1st)
Indies #2:diving catch by SS of a Dee grounder with flip to 2B for force-out. (1st)
A-WOL: diving catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (2nd)
Larry: catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (2nd)
Indies #1: 1-2-3 inning. (2nd)
Indies #2: P6-4 double play. (2nd)
Marilyn: catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (5th)
Nat: catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (6th)
Dee: catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (7th)
Marilyn: catch of a ball deflected off ceiling. (7th)

Indies #2: multiple stretches of catches at first for force-outs.
Indies #1: 8 shut-out innings; limited opponent to just one run.
Indies #2: 4 shut-out innings of play.

Pitching:
Marilyn: 9 IP, 2 Ks, 1 BB, CG, Win.

Memorable Events:
- There was a disputable call on a close play at 2B. After fielding a ball that was hit off the right wall, Mike threw the ball to Larry, who was covering second. Larry’s right foot was on the bag as he caught the ball. However, Larry stepped off the bag afterwards, either because he lost his balance or because he was trying to make a play at home plate. Ump said he “saw green” between Larry’s foot and the bag. Camera did not have a good angle.

- An Indies #2 lefty hit the ball past a diving A-WOL at 2B. Ball deflected off wall and was fielded by Larry in OF. Larry flipped ball to Marcus just in time for force-out at 2B.

- After the game was over, the Indies #2 asked to play the bottom half of the 9th. Indies #1 agreed, but went down in 1-2-3 order.

A-WOL Watch:

Batting:
4 for 5 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.
- First 4 at-bats: used lighter bats. All were pop-ups that landed on 3B side of mound. I think the netting on field 2 causes pop-ups intended for RF to be deflected towards left, as observed in one at-bat.
- Last at-bat made with heavier bat. (2 outs, runner on 3B.) Hit ball to short, but beat throw to drive in a run.

Base Running:
- After second hit, took 3B after advancing to 2B on play. (BT) This play prevented a force-out at 3B, as next batter would hit a ball that landed near third.
- Later beat throw to home because ball was not caught. If I had slid, I would have avoided tag completely.

Fielding:
2B:
- One touch. (Diving catch of ball off ceiling.)
- Failed to cover second, after OF was occupied going after a ball that SS fielded.

OF:
One touch. (Put-out to 2B.)
